After strolling around the streets near to the central station in Kyoto I headed for some of the better known tourist spots. The only problem is that most of the sites are located on the outskirts of the town which males it very difficult to see a lot in one day. And keep in mind I was still hurting from wandering all around Osaka yesterday, so this became a test of endurance. (more…)

I didn’t have anything planned for today so I slept for a really long time which was really helpful after yesterday’s exhausting trip to Nikko. Which is why not that much happened at all. I got up and then my host’s mother was kind of enough to keep me company and fi me something to eat. The yakisoba was very very delicious. (more…)

A few anime recommendations

I have been watching a little bit more anime recently, because a friend of mine recommended a few series. So this is what I was watching.

Over Drive
I’ve always liked sports series so I was happy to find this one. This time it’s all about cycling. A young student joins a bicycle club at school and turns out to be a very talented rider although he says that he never rode a bike before. The club joins a race in Japan which drags on for almost 10 episodes. That’s basically it. It’s all about enthusiasm for something and following a dream. The usual anime story line. Because this series is about cycling I thought there might be some hints for performance enhancing drugs but that has been left out completly. Instead the Tour de France is the hot topic here and it’s still the pure and marvellous event it used to be. (more…)

Today the final round of summer tournament of the Japanese high schools started at Koushien stadium in Osaka. I really don’t have the insight on which school might be a favourite to win the whole thing this year since there are so many changes on the teams each year, mainly because the students graduate and new players will come to the teams with each school year. But because the tournament started today I found a new anme series which is airing on TBS in Japan at the moment. It’s called “Ookiku Furikabutte” and just as other school animes it’s about a high school baseball team that is aiming to go to Koushien at least once in their three years at high school. It is set in Saitama and tells the Story of Mihashi Ren, the pitcher for Nishiura High School. He always thought that his spot on the team of his Middle School was because his grandfather was the manager of the baseball club. (more…)
