It’s been quite a while since I had some time to go out to a show and I figure I only got my ass off the couch this evening because I had two weeks of holiday and that’s always a good sign that I had a lot of time to relax and recharge my batteries. Also I wanted to at least show up at the “Club Scheisse/Aetherblissement”, a very nice and cool venue, one of the last in Cologne which still have this semi-legal/squat feel to it. (more…)

For the last day I was about to spend in New York City I decided to take things slowly and sleep all morning. Felt really refreshing and by noon I was ready to go to the subway again to meet with my host. He had offered to show me through Little Italy and Chinatown since both neighbourhoods are close to where he works. (more…)

I was out on my own again on Monday and it seems like every time I hit the streets alone, the weather changes rapidly. The second day of my trip looked rather dull since it had been raining all night and there wasn’t any chance of the rain stopping any time soon. I was on my own for the first time since my host obviously had to work. We were to meet up later during the day, but until then I was out to explore the city. (more…)

I’ve seen what must be over a thousand shows in my entire life so far. Some took place in rotten cellars where the stench was so bad you wanted to puke. Some were in huge halls too expensive to buy a drink. Some were in small clubs with a few spectators where we hung out and talked to the bands afterwards. Some were at youth centres with nagging social workers who would show yu the dor if you were drinking a beer. But never in my life have I attended a show like the one yesterday evening. Ladies and gentlemen, The Gaslight Anthem at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. (more…)

It’s a hot and humid place after all. New York, after only one day, already has fulfilled all my expectations and got me curious to see even more. I think even after only one day one can sense what this city means to the world. So, here’s how I got there. (more…)
