I haven’t been writing about baseball lately. Somehow I want to blame it on my work, which might be true to a certain extent. But then again I still have the chance to catch a decent amount of games both from the States and Japan, so I shouldn’t complain. (more…)

I don’t really know how I got into baseball anyway. Back in the 1990s there was a german sports channel on cable television which was showing the World Series between the Twins and the Braves and I was casually watching this as it happened to be the only sports broadcast on TV. But it never fascinated me to the extent that I tried to follow results or even pick up a bat or a glove myself.

The playoffs in both leagues are in full swing and while the American MLB already decides who will play in the World Series, their Japanese counterparts have just started their road to the championship with the Climax Series in both Leagues. In the Pacific League the Nippon Ham Fighters of Hokkaido reached the next round by beating the Orix Buffaloes and in the Central League the Hanshin Tigers (阪神タイガース), who led the League for a long time before being taken over by the Yomiuri Giants, face off against last year’s champions, the Chuunichi Dragons (中日ドラゴンズ).
