I have to admit that the more I get into baseball the more anxious I am for the season to begin. I was following the off season moves very closely thanks to the great mlbtraderumors.com crew who write their postings so even newbies like me can understand what’s happening around the league. (more…)

From now on I won’t be able to write about the games on a regular basis as my work schedule changed back to normal. I had some problems getting out of bed today and I definetely didn’t get enough sleep last night. Still I was surprised to find the last game of today still up and running. I didn’t expect that to happen.  In the meantime be sure to check out what Deanna has to say about her trip to Koushien. She’s also got some very nice pictures there (as always). I think I like the one of those two Nihon Bunri players best.  And for the Inning-by-inning reports go to the always hard working Goro Shigeno‘s site. (more…)

After two days of rain the sun came up again and they boys were finally able to play ball again. Because of all the rainouts they had pushed the Jyousuikan vs Kochi match to the last spot of the day, I think to get both teams some rest. I was able to chat a little bit with the people at the Koushien chatrrom over at japanesebaseball.com, that was very nice. (more…)

Somewhow I feel a little sorry for the boys of Jyousuikan and Kochi. They were sent out yesterday again and right from the start it didn’t look like they were going to finish this one in time either. However they were able to bring in 4 complete innings with a score of 6-5 in Jyousuikan‘s favour. Lot’s of errors, of course, but I take it that those happened due to the very hard conditions on the field. Jyousuikan changed pitchers in the 4th while Kochi stuck with their ace.
Anyway, they will try to make up all the games today. I don’t really know the schedule, but I think they will start at 08:30 am Osaka time and then continue from there. When I was looking at the weather forecast things didn’t look bright. By the way, Patrick of NPBTracker tweets that it’s the first time since 1975 that two consecutive days have been rained out.
If I read this article in Nikkan Sports (Japanese) correctly the game between Jyousuikan and Kochi will be scheduled as the fourth game for Tuesday. They will reshufle the order a little bit, starting with Tohoka Tachibana 常葉橘 (Shizuoka) vs Ashigawadai 旭川大 (Kita Hokkaido) followed by Nagano Nichidai 長野日大 (Nagano) vs Sakushin Gakuin 作新学院 (Tochigi) and Tenri 天理 (Nara) vs Nanto Sougou Fukuno 南砺総合福 (Toyama).

Just in case you’re wondering: today’s opening game between Jyousuikan 女水館 (Hiroshima) and Kochi 高知 (Kochi) was suspended after the 3rd inning with Jyousuikan leading 2-0 due to heavy rain and all the other games for the day were called off as well. I suspect they will be rescheduled for tomorrow.

One of the problems a fan of Japanese high school baseball faces in Germany is the time difference. There are no night games at Koushien, so most of the games take place in the middle of the night German time. Which means in order to get to see at least one game during the first few days of the tournament one has to wake up pretty early. Which was what I did yesterday and I was very pleased to find out that one of the powerhouses of high school baseball in Japan, Osaka Toin, had just started their game. (more…)
