So there we have it: the final of this year’s Summer Koushien tournament is just around the corner. And both semifinal games seemed to have been not as close as some other games this year. In fact the turnout was the same on both occasions. Identical results, although the runs were scored in different inning (duh!). Goro Shigeno of the 高校野球 Blog spoils us with the stats of the Best of 4 teams and it’s interesting to see that the teams who reached the final used their pitchers very differently. (more…)

I was a bit surprised by the matchups of todays two games. While I was able to figure out the second game, the first one didn’t make any sense when I was looking at the brackets posted on japanesebaseball.com. Turns out that for the Best 8 round and onwards the teams draw lots to determine the matchups. (more…)

I took a break from getting up early to watch the games for the weekend. Still the homepage for the tournament provides a service for lazy guys like me with a highlight section in which you can watch each inning of every game. So I didn’t watch the live coverage for the following games, still I wanted to keep everybody posted about was what happening at Koushien over the past few days. (more…)
