As NPBTracker tweets that Yu Darvish was taken off the roster by Nippon Ham to skip his start and to work on his pitching form, the summer high school tournament is reaching the final stages. Out of the 49 schools at the start of the competition only four are left now to determine who will win the whole thing this time.
Teikyou 帝京 (Higashi Tokyo) – Kenritsu Gifu Shougyou 県岐阜商 (Gifu) 3-6
Gifusho are on a roll. After knocking out PL Gakuen they now eliminated another powerhouse. All the damage was down by the 3rd inning when they scored 5 runs. Teikyou gradually climed back into the game, but the wasted too many chances, particulary one in the 8th inning, when their batter tried to strech a double into a triple. They were also robbed by Gifusho 2B Fujita, who stopped one ball which might have gotten far into the outfield with a nice grab and threw out another runner after making a similar stop in the 9th.Gifusho will now face Nihon Bunri which I think is the “weaker” part of the semifinals. Both teams are on a tear so there’s no way to predict who will win in this game.
Miyakonojyou Shougyou 都城商 (Miyazaki) – Chuukyoudai Chuukyou 中京大中京 (Aichi) 2-6
Chuukyou came out of the gates blazing with a 3-run shot in the first and there was no way for Miyakonojyou to recover from that. Their starting pitcher and cleanup hitter Doubayashi held his opponents in check throughout the game allowing only two runs. Their defense also looked strong, turing a nice double play in the 4th. So everythings set for a matchup against Hamanaki Higashi, who’s ace Yuusei must be a little bit more well rested for the semifinal.
