Just a short one today since my holiday is over. From today on there will only be two games each day as the tournament enters its final stages.
Hotoku Gakuen 報徳学園 (Hyogo) vs Chuukyou Dai 中京大中京 (Aichi) 6-5
Chuukyou Dai looked like the winner in this one until Hotoku came through in the top of the 9th with two runs to turn it around. They started it off with a first pitch single by pinch hitter Sakamoto putting the tying run on base. The bunt attempt to move the runner failed badly as the batter was out on on foul fly ball. But a 4-pitch walk put the go ahead run on base. The next batter moved the runners up one base and because of another dead ball the bases were loaded with two outs. A shot to left sealed Chuukyou Dai’s fate, two runners scored turning the game around. Chuukyou Dai weren’t able to respond.
Today’s musical award goes to Hotoku’s marching band was well, as they were playing not only Otsukai Ai’s “Sakuranbo” and the Village People’s “Go West”, but also a strange German disco song from 1980 which entered the European song contest. Here’s a video of that piece.
Minoshima 箕島 (Wakayama) vs Seiho 清峰 (Nagasaki) 2-8
Check Goro Shigeno’s blog for inning-by-inning reports.
